This project involves the adaptive reuse of an existing backland industrial building - an old sawmill - to establish a new Typographic Centre in Kells.
The new facility will conserve and showcase 5 historic letterpress printers, a working studio that will produce limited edition printed material, and a seminar room for training and education programs on the matter, all within the existing outer enclosure of the original monastic settlement in Kells, Co Meath.
The historic timber floors and roof will be maintained and strengthened with additional insulation and cladding added to make the existing building compliant with the Nearly Zero Energy Building standard.
